Jason Belmonte earns two byes as Division Daily Leader

    2006MiniJasonBelmonte.jpg Australia's Jason Belmonte (left) led the Open Division on the fifth day of qualifying for the finals of the 13th Annual Mini-Eliminator in Las Vegas, Nevada. Belmonte, who currently leads the European rankings, shot a 699-series in the noon squad, will bypass the first two rounds of the finals on Sunday and is guaranteed $1,500.

    Two more Division Daily Leaders came from this squad. Bill Webb from Enfield, Conn. (731) and Ron Schloss, Mesa, Ariz. (718) remained unchallenged in the 35 and under and in the 36-49 Division, resp.

    Brian Martinsen Sr., Vass, NC, won a close match for the lead in the 205 and under Division with 611, posted in the morning squad at 10am.

    Jim Slaughter.jpg The sole player from the 2pm squad, who grabbed the byes, was James Slaughter in the 50 and over Division. The Las Vegan managed 695 series to beat Dr. Dean Chavers, Albuquerque, NM, who rolled 669 in the morning.

    The other squad leaders in the 2pm squad were David O' Sullivan, Yonkers, NY (664, 35 and under), Ken Diiorio, Artesia, Calif. (670, 36 to 49), Taron Prakash, San Bruno, Calif. (605, 205 and under) and Jess Stayrook, San Diego, Calif. (667, Open Division).

    Mini-Eliminator qualifying will continue on Saturday with four more squads at 10am, noon 2pm and 4pm.

    The Brunswick Shootout starts at 5pm at The Orleans Bowling Center. The Brunswick Shootout is another way to cash at The Mini-Eliminator. Mini-Eliminator entrants have a chance to win over $42,000 in cash prizes and get two new Brunswick balls with free expert drilling (1 ball only).

    All bowlers qualifying or buying a spot ($250) into the Brunswick Shootout will bowl three games with any Brunswick ball at 5pm (36 to 49 /50 and over/205 and under divisions) or at 7:30pm (Open Division/35 and under). All will bowl 3 games across 6 lanes with everyone dropping their lowest game (only the highest two games will count). A total of 65 bowlers will advance to the finals on Saturday, July 8th at 7:30pm: The top 13 highest 2 game series from each division.

    The highest series in each division receives two byes in the Shootout finals and is guaranteed $750. All other finalists earn a minimum of $250.
