    2005 AmZ Championship

Metrobowl in San José, Costa Rica - September 18-28, 2005

A day after setting the three-game trios record, Mexico cruised to the gold medal at the American Zone Championships. L-R Daniel Falconi, Alejandro Cruz and Benjamin Corona totaled 3804, an average of 211,33, to easily win the title in the Men Trios by over 100 pins.

It was the second gold medal for Mexico at Metrobowl in San José, Costa Rica, after Falconi and Cruz took the title in Doubles two days ago. "We were really comfortable today," Falconi said. "We bowled so well yesterday and maybe that's why we were able to relax."

Host country Costa Rica with Pablo Pena, Fernando Gonzalez and Marco Odio took silver with 3695 and Mexico's other team with Enrique Calvo, Ernesto Franco and Marcos Baeza was third with 3671.

For the first time in the history of the American Zone Championships, the United States failed to win a trios medal. Singles champion Andrew Cain, Rhino Page and Steve Weber made a late charge, but had to settle for sixth place, 11 pins short of a medal.

However, Cain was able to take back his All Events lead with his 687-series Saturday night. His 18-game total of 3910 is 43 pins better than Corona, who is second.

Action continues Sunday with the first three games of the Team event.
