    2009BWCchampionChoiYongKyuCarolineLagrange.jpgCanada's Caroline Lagrange and Choi Yong-Kyu from Korea (pictured left) won the women's and men's titles in the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup which was staged from Nov. 13-20, 2009 at 52-lane Melaka International Bowling Center in Melaka, Malaysia.

    In the women's title match, top seeded Lagrange defeated No. 3 seed Zara Giles, England, two-games-to-one. Lagrange dropped the first game but won the next two games in best-of-three format to seal the victory in her BWC debut. Bronze went to Siti Safiyah Amirah, Malaysia, who fell to Giles in the opening match, 2-0.

    2009BWCCountryAwardMichaelSchmidtCarolineLagrange.jpg2009BWCAwardPaengNepomucenoBellindaTan.jpgChoi captured the first World Cup title for Korea when the No. 1 seed swept 2005 BWC champion Michael Schmidt, Canada, in the title match, 2-0. Schmidt also swept No. 3 seed, Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia, in the opening match.

    154 players from 89 countries - 87 men and 67 women - participated in the 45th edition of the prestigious event. Lagrange and Schmidt won the Country Award for the best team performance (pictured left). 4-time BWC champion Paeng Nepomuceno, Philippines, and Belinda Tan (pictured right), New Zealand, were voted Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Tournament by their peers.

    The 46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will be held in Zagreb, Croatia (Oct. 16-23, 2010).
