Dominic Barrett wins qualifying in Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament

    Leads 38 men and 10 women into Sunday's finals

    2009WGOskuPalerrmaa.jpgDominic Barrett (pictured left), England, finished the qualifying of the Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament atop the leaderboard to lead 48 players - 38 men and 10 women - into the finals on Sunday at Dolfijn Bowling Tilburg in Tilburg, Netherlands.

    Barrett, who has already won 1.500 Euro bonus during the qualifying week, led the field of 236 players - 181 men and 55 women - from 19 countries with 1491 six-game total and an average of 248.50.

    Three-time defending European Bowling Tour ranking champion, Osku Palermaa (right), Finland, was close behind in second place with 1475. Bodo Konieczny, Germany, posted 1373 in the last qualifying squad On Saturday evening to jump into third place.

    Rounding out the top 8, who will bypass the first three rounds of the finals, were Tore Torgersen, Norway, and Thomas Larsen (right), Denmark, in 7th and 8th place with 1363 and 1350.

Peter Basner, Germany, hit the cutoff number for 38th place with 1295, an average of 215.83.

    The top 38 will be joined in the finals by six players from a separate leaderboard of Squads 1-4 and the top 4 from the Desperado Squad.

    The Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2010 will be held from Sunday, Feb. 7 through Sunday Feb. 14 at 20-lane Dolfijn Bowling Tilburg in Tilburg, Netherlands. The tournament is the second stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Silver" tournaments.

    Once again the Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament will be contested on dual lane condition. The left lane is dressed with the 46 feet long pattern (pdf file), the right lane with the 33 feet short pattern (pdf file).

    Players will compete for total prize money of 51.200 Euro or approximately 70.000 USD. The champion will walk away with the 8.000 Euro top prize.

    Osku Palermaa, Finland, is the defending champion. Ghislaine van der Tol, Netherlands, won the women's rankings in Tilburg in 2009.

    Qualifying ran from Sunday Fe. 7 through Saturday Feb. 13 and ended with the ultimate one-game Desperado Squad. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 48 players - the top 38 qualifiers, the top 4 from the Desperado Squad and the top six from a separate leaderboard of the squads contested Feb. 7-9 - advanced to the finals on Sunday, Feb. 14. The top 8 qualifiers receive three byes, while qualifiers 9-16 earn two byes.

    The players will be divided into eight groups of four players each and will determine the champion in six rounds over two games total pinfall. The top two players from each group will advance to the next round and will be reseeded according to pinfall in the previous round.

    The field will be cut from 48 to 32, 24, 16, 8 and the then four, who will battle it out for the title.

    The top 38 plus the top, the top six from a separate leaderboard of squads 1-4 (Places 39-44) and the top 4 from the Desperado Squad (places 45-48) advanced to the finals. The top 8 qualifiers receive three byes, while qualifiers 9-16 earn two byes.
