Korea gets off to a blistering start in men's Team event at 21st Asian Championships

Korea got off to a blistering start in the men's five-player Team event at the UAE Asian Championships as Choi Bok-Eum, Choi Yong-Kyu, Cho Young-Seon, Suh Sang-Cheon and Jang Dong-Chul tallied a 3310 series (1133-1091-1086), a 220.67 average, to take the lead after three games on short oil.
Bok-Eum, who posted two 300 games in the Championships, one in Singles and the other in Trios, both on short oil, led the team with 714 and was followed by Yong-Kyu (668), Young-Seon (655), Sang-Cheon (638) and Dong-Chul (635).
The team of the host country UAE was 31 pins behind in second place with 3279. Sayed Ibrahim, Mahmood Al-Attar, Naif Oqab, Shaker Al-Hassan and Mohd. Al-Qubaisi started with a huge 1163 game, the highest game of all 17 teams and added 1014 and 1102.
Hong Kong's Michael Mak, Wu Siu Hong (pictured left, l-r), Michael Tsang, Eric Tseng and Wicky Yeung were a distant third with 3186 including Mak's 724 set, the highest individual series of the day.
Rounding out the top five were Kuwait and Japan with 3150 and 3084, respectively. Trios gold medalist Malaysia had a disappointing start into the team event and was already 316 pins off the pace for the bronze medal with 2870 or an average of 191.33.
Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong (pictured left) widened his lead in All Events after 21 out of 24 games (combined results of Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team) to 43 pins with 4727 and an average of 225.10.
Koreans Choi Yong-Kyu and Cho Young-Seon leaped two spots each to second and third place with 4684 and 4656, respectively. Aaron Kong, Malaysia, and Yousif Falah, Bahrain, two spots each to fourth and fifth place with 4645 and 4603, respectively.
The 107 men from 20 countries - Australia, Bahrain, Chinese, Taipei, Egypt, Hong, Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand and UAE - will return Friday afternoon for the second block on medium oil.
The top 16 in All Events (total 24 games) will advance to the Masters finals, which will conclude the 21st Asian Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
