Starting the day in second place, Squad 2 leader Korea featuring Hwang Sun-Ok, Jeon Eun-Hee and Son Yun-Hee (pictured left) rolled games of 697, 711 and 725, a 2133 three game-series, to set the pace in the Trios event at the WWC in Hong Kong with record 4232 total and an average of 236.11.

Jeon led the team with 1467 or an average of 244.50, Hwang was close behind with 1448, and Son who celebrated her birthday yesterday, had 1317.

Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, Liz Johnson and Kelly Kulick (right), United States, sandwiched a record 760-game between 702 and 674 to move into second place with 4140 (230.00). Johnson led the team with 1416.

Colombia's (pictured left) Paola Gomez, Rocio Restrepo and two-time defending World Champion Clara Juliana Guerrero (All Events and Masters) leaped into third place with 4012 (222.89).

Fourth place belonged to Singapore (right) with Daphne Tan, who was the best player in Squad 2 with 1469 (244.83), Geraldine Ng and Cherie Tan with 2146 today and 3988 overall (221.56).

With Squad 1 completing their second block on long oil this afternoon, the other 21 teams of Squad 2 are already out of contention for the medals.

The 171 players from 33 countries were split into two squads (53 trios and 12 pacers) to bowl six games preliminaries - the first three-game block on medium oil on Wednesday and the second three-game block on long oil on Thursday.

Korea (left) featuring Team world champions from 2009, Hwang Sun-Ok (247), Jeon Eun-Hee (257) and Son Yun-Hee (193) started the day with a 697 game to retain the lead in Squad two after four of six games with 2796 and an average of 233.

The Koreans widened their lead to 86 pins as second-place Australia (right) with Lexi Nicoll, Ann-Maree Putney and Narelle Baker struggled (576) and slipped to fifth place with 2606.

Denmark (left) leaped into second place with 2710 behind a 700 game. Anja Ginge Jensen had 236, Sascha Wedel contributed 211 and Britt Brøndsted led the trio with 253.

Team USA with Doubles gold medalist Liz Johnson (249) and bronze medalists Carolyn Dorin-Ballard (225) and Kelly Kulick (228) used a 702 game to narrow the gap to Denmark to four pins with 2706.

Fourth place belonged to Colombia (above right) featuring Paola Gomez, Rocio Restrepo and Clara Juliana Guerrero, who were 69 pins behind the Americans with 2637.

Amandine Jacques (265), Isabelle Derynck (222) and Valerie Murat (235) of France (left) had the highest game with 725 to jump into sixth place with 2576.

Singapore (above right) was close behind at 722 including games of 265 (Daphne Tan), 220 (Geraldine Ng) and 237 (Cherie Tan). The Singaporeans moved into seventh place in the squad with 2564.

Rounding out the top 10 after 4/6 games were Finland (left) with Mari Nurmilo, Hannele Impola and Nina Manninen in eighth place with 2560; Mexico (right) with Gabriela Hernández, Verónica Hernández and Sayuri Yamada in ninth with 2533 and Germany with Vanessa Timter, Janine Ribguth and Juliane Rieger in tenth with 2512.

Team USA (right) posted record 760 in the second game, breaking the previous record of 758 by two pins, en route to overtake second place in Squad 2 with 3466 five-game total and an average of 231,07. Johnson (center) led the team with 279 and 528 after two games, Kulick (r.) had 244 and Dorin-Ballard (l.) added 237.

The Koreans rolled a 711 game to retain a 41-pin lead with 3507 and an average of 233,80. Denmark was third with 3376 behind a 665, with Colombia in fourth place at 3346 thanks to a 709 game.

The Aussie rebounded from the sup-par opening game with 661 and 3267, goof for fifth place. Singapore moved to sixth with 695 and 3259 total. Finland had 644 and 3204 to move up to seventh place with 3204.

Germany (left) leaped two spots to eighth place with 3193 due to a 681 game. Ninth place belonged to Sweden (right) with Sandra Andersson, Rebecka Larsen and Elin Adolfsson, who had 681 and 680 today for 3184. Rounding out the top 10 was France, who slipped fourth place behind a 603 (3179).

Korea's Hwang Sun-Ok, Jeon Eun-Hee and Son Yun-Hee (pictured left, l-r) added a 725 final game to their previous games of 697 and 711 to break the championship record for three and six games en route to lead the 25 trios of Squad 2 after six games preliminaries with 4232 total and an average of 236.11 .

The Koreans posted 2133 for three games on long oil today, an average of 237, to break the record set by overnight leader Japan in the first block (2109) by 24 pins. With their 4332 total, they smashed their own record from 2007 by 262 pins.

Jeon led the team with 1467 or an average of 244.50, Hwang was close behind with 1448, and Son who celebrated her birthday yesterday, had 1317.

Denmark fell to fifth place with 3929 behind a 554 in the last game. Malaysia with Esther Cheah,  Singles champion Jacqueline Sijore and Zandra Aziela (left, l-r) rocketed into sixth place with 3897.

Starting the day in 41st place, the team had games of 718, 716 and 731 to become the new record holder for three games in Trios with 2165 and an average of 240,56. That 731 team game included a 289 game by Zandra Aziela, the highest individual game of the day thus far, resulting in the squad-best 762 series today.

France moved into seventh place with a 700 game and 3879. The Netherlands with Lisanne Breeschoten, Wendy Kok and Bianca Wiekeraad (right, l-r) were eighth with 3832 followed by Finland in ninth place with 3823. Rounding out the top 10 was Germany with 3820.

The fourth Women's World Championships takes place at bowling center Hong Kong Bowling City in Hong Kong, China, from Sept. 1 through 11, 2011.

171 of the best women bowlers in the world featuring 33 countries compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, five-player Team event, All Events and Masters in the nine-day event.

The WTBA patterns "Seoul" and "Paris" will be used in Hong Kong. The 39-feet Seoul pattern is the second-shortest of the four "medium" WTBA certified lane patterns. With a length of 47 feet, Paris is the longest of all 12 certified patterns.

Singles was played on "Paris" and Doubles will be contested on "Seoul", while Trios and Team will feature both oil patterns (3 games on each pattern). Masters match play will be staged on dual lane condition (one lane dressed with the Seoul pattern and the other lane dressed with the Paris pattern).

The top four players and teams after six games in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team, respectively, will advance to the semifinals. The No. 1 meet No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3. The winners will determine the World Champion, while the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are single-game matches.
