Stuart Williams leads field of 38 players into Sunday's finals in Chandra Open

    2010BucharestStuartWilliams.jpg2011EBT07OskuPalermaa.jpgStuart Williams (pictured left) of England won the qualifying of the Chandra Open 2011 after posting a 1426 six-game series Saturday afternoon at Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherlands. The former World Ranking Masters champion, who was exempt on the PBA Tour for the last two seasons, leads a group of 38 players - 31 men and seven women - into Sunday's finals.

    Williams had games of 246, 213, 237, 237, 235 and 258 in Squad 11, an average of 237.67, to beat out Adam Ishman, United States, for the top spot by three pins. The American led Squad 10 on Saturday morning with 1423 to surpass previous leader Osku Palermaa (right, 1422), Finland, by one pin.

    Rounding out the top 6, who will earn one bye for the finals, was another Englishman, 2004-06 EBT ranking champion Paul Moor, with 1415,

    Carmen Haandrikman, Netherlands, was the best of 28 women in the 133-.player field from 14 countries in seventh place with 1405 including 48 pins handicap, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    Yoan Alix, France, led the 12th and last qualifying squad with 1392, good for 11th place overall. Current EBT men's ranking leader Thomas Larsen (below right), Denmark, survived the first cut in 24th place with 1327.

    Joining the top 30 qualifiers in the finals were the top four from a separate leader board of the first three Squads, Gerrie de Graaf, Jeroen van Geel, Remco van Dommelen and Michell Stinissen, all Netherlands, and the top 4 from the one-game Desperado Squad, Robert Wölki, Germany, 257; Phil Hulst, Netherlands, 238; Pat Nolan, United States, 225; and Mark Jacobs, Netherlands, 218.

    2011ChandraOpenLogo.jpg The Chandra Open is a newcomer on the European Bowling Tour and will be held Sept. 19-25, 2011 at 16-lane Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, The tournament is the 16th stop of the 2011 Tour and the fifth out of six EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season.

    The tournament offers total prize fund of 24.600 Euro with 5.000 Euro going to the winner and 3.000 Euro to the runner-up, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive 2.000 Euro and 1.000, respectively.

    Since the English Open has lost its EBT status, the 2011 European Bowling Tour consists of 20 tour stops in 16 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, six Silver and six Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the Chandra Open gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2011 season qualify for the fifth EBT Masters to be held at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany on April 30 and May 1, 2012. The event will become the first EBT Masters to be contested on single lane condition.

    Qualifying of the Chandra Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) ran from Monday, Sept. 19 through Saturday, Sept. 24. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 38 players advanced to the finals on Sunday, Sept. 25 - the top 30 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 from a separate leader board of Squad 1-3, and the top 4 from the Desperado Squad. The top 6 qualifiers earned one bye.

    The other 32 players will bowl six games starting from scratch with the top 10 advancing to the second round. The top 10 from Round One and the top six qualifiers will bowl six games starting from scratch to cut to the top 8.

    Those eight will bowl another six-game block with the pinfall from Round Two being carried forward. The player with the highest 12-game total will be declared the winner.
