Dominic Barrett leads 48 players into finals at 34th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona

    Rebecka Larsen, Markus Heinonen move into second and third place on Saturday; all squad leaders above the cut line; Stuart Williams hits the cutoff number for 42nd place with 1302 (217 average);

    The six-time European Bowling Tour champion and one-time Professional Bowlers Association Tour titlist, who rolled the tournament's sole 300 game in an earlier squad, will carry over 50 per cent of his highest six-game total of 1484 (247.33 average).

    Finishing qualifying in second place was European All Events champion Rebecka Larsen of Sweden (right), who led the 12th squad on Saturday morning with 1447 total including 48 pins women's handicap. The two-time European champion had games of 214, 239, 216, 268, 244 and 218 for 1399 scratch, an average of 233.17, and was by far the best of 24 women in the 126 player field from 23 countries.

Places four and five belonged to Mats Maggi of Belgium and Ildemaro Ruiz of Venezuela, who led the first two of 15 qualifying squads with 1424.

    Four-time EBT point ranking winner Osku Palermaa of Finland was the best non-squad winner in sixth place with 1399. Defending champion Martin Larsen of Sweden (right) made the first cut in 15th place with 1373.

Christian Racpan of Germany was the lone player in the last squad Saturday night, who made the cut thanks to a 1320 total.

    As all squad leaders, who were automatically qualified for the finals, finished in the top 42, the cut fell to PBA champion Stuart Williams of England (right) with 1302 total and an average of 217.

    Besides Larsen, another three women Krista Pöllänen, Finland (30th, 1323), Cassie Staudinger, Australia (31st, 1322) and 2011 EBT point ranking champion Joline Persson-Planefors of Sweden (40th, 1306) made the cut to the top 42. Those 42 will be joined by another six women, who received a wild card for the finals.

    2012EBT12BarcelonaLogo_small.jpg The 34th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona is the 12th stop of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the third out of four EBT "Gold" tournaments this season.

    The tournament will be held July 17-22 at 14-lane Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Spain and offers total prize fund of 60.000 Euro with 12.000 Euro going to the winner, 6.000 to the runner-up and 3.000 to the third place finisher.

    The tournament features a 41 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 25.85ml volume oil total.

    The qualifying in Barcelona (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) ran from Tuesday July 17 through Saturday, July 21. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 48 players advanced to the finals on Sunday, July 22 - the top 42 qualifiers including all squad leaders and an additional six women.

    Those 48 players, who carry forward 50 per cent of their qualifying total, bowl four games to cut to the top 24, The top 3 players after another four-game block in Round Two qualify for the stepladder finals.

    The No. 3 seed bowls No. 2 and the winner takes on No. 1 to determine the champion in one-game matches. The stepladder finals will be broadcasted live on Eurosport 2 on Sunday, July 22 at 6.15 p.m. CEST.

    2012EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 21 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, eight Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the 34th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.
