No changes atop the leaderboard of the Brunswick Euro Challenge on Friday morning

    Two of the 21 players in Squad 8, Martin Larsen (SWE) and Thomas Larsen (DEN), make it into the top 52; Germany's Philipp Schuett is on the bubble with 1332 (222 average)

    2013EBT04ThomasLarsen.jpgJust 21 players hit the lanes at Dream-Bowl Palace in Munich, Germany, in the eight qualifying squad of the 106.000 Euro Brunswick Euro Challenge, Europe's richest bowling tournament.

    Martin Larsen (pictured left) of Sweden and Denmark's Thomas Larsen (right) were the only players who bowled their way into the top 52, who will survive the first cut at the en of qualifying Saturday night.

    Martin, who was voted 2011-12 Steve Nagy Sportsmanship Award winner in his first year as a PBA Tour player, rolled games of 229, 228, 257, 216, 193 and 247 to lead Squad 8 with 1370 total and an average of 228.33. The multiple World and European champion moved into 27 place in the overall standings.

    2013EBT04RobertAnderssonMartinLarsen.jpgThomas, who finished second to compatriot Jesper Agerbo in the 2012 Men's European Championships Masters event, finished 16 pins behind the Swede with 1354 (225.67) to overtake 38th place.

    Martin's long-time team mate, Robert Andersson (left), missed the current cutoff number for 52nd place by five pins to sit in 65th place with 1327. Germany's Philipp Schuett holds the 52nd and last spot to advance with 1332 and an average of 222.00.

    2013EBT04JoonasJehkinen.jpg2013EBT04SharonKoh.jpgFinnish international Joonas Jehkinen (left), who posted a 1470 series Thursday night, remained unchallenged and continued to lead the 231-player field from 31 countries with 1470 (245.00).

    Richard Teece of England stayed in second place with 1469 and was followed by Sharon Koh (right) of Malaysia, who was the best of 44 women in the tournament so far in third place with 1465 including 8 pins handicap per game, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    Qualifying continues Friday, March 22, with Squads 9-11 scheduled for 1, 5 and 9 p.m. Central European Time.

    2013BECLogo.jpg The Brunswick Euro Challenge is the fourth tournament on the 2013 European Bowling Tour schedule and one of only two "Platinum" events this season, the EBT's highest tournament category. The BEC is also the seventh stop of the World Bowling Tour and the second of three WBT events in Europe in 2013.

    For the first time in 10 years of BEC competition, Europe's richest tournament will be contested at Europe's biggest bowling center, 52-lane Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany.

    The 106.000 Euro tournament, which runs from March 19-24, offers a 15.000 Euro top prize and a PBA International title if won by a PBA member.

    At the end of the qualifying, the top 52 plus the top eight players from a separate leader board of the squads on March 19 & 20 (places 53-60) and the top four of the Desperado Squad (places 61-64) will advance to the finals. The top 12 qualifiers will receive one bye.
