Petri Mannonen puts on a show in Round of 32

     Finn Petri Mannonen put on a show on early Sunday morning on lanes 3-4 at Bowling Center Viernheim. His opponent in best-of-three, 2-time PBA champion Lonnie Waliczek bowled well, but Mannonen fired 278 and 264 to sweep the American.

    31-time PBA champion Peter Weber and former pro Jouni Helminen of Finland made quick work against their opponents, 2-0.

    All other matches went the distance. Manfred Zabel countered a double from Austrian Niki Schröder with a double to win the decider 246-237. 6-time PBA champion Doug Kent opened the door for PBA rookie Dino Castillo when he left a 7-10 spit in his 10th frame, but Castillo was unable to take advantage losing 192-223.

    David Canady topped Mika Luoto 192-182 in the third game to win 2-1. Being down by Robert Wölki came back from being down 0-1 to defeat former pro Peter Knopp 256-244 and 222-207. Knopp left two big splits in the 9th frame of both games. He converted 2-4-8-10 in the decider but Wölki doubles in his 10th to seal the victory. Gery Verbruggen missed a 3-5-9 spare in the final frame to hand the match to Hagen Pest, 199-205.

    Ives van Eyken sidelines Lasse Lintilä in Round of 32

     Ives van Eyken moved into the Round of 16 in the 100.000 Euro Viernheim Open with a stunningly ruthless 2-0 victory over 2-time High Roller champion Lasse Lintilä. The Belgian shot two big games, 255 and 245 to seal the victory.

    Five more players made quick work of their opponents. Nick Froggatt sidelined Tobias Gäbler, Sami Konsteri won against compatriot Osku Palermaa, Pasi Uotila flew past Chris van Damme, Dirk Dreyer topped Dennis Eklund and Peter Ljung secured his spot in the Round of 16 with a 268-263 victory over Maurizio Celli.

    Jimmy Dan Mortensen opened in the 10th frame in game one to allow Kimmo Lehtonen to take a 1-o lead with a double, 226-220. Mortensen rebounded with 225-163 and edged Lehtonen by two pins in the decider, 188-186.

    Britt Bröndsted, the sole woman in the finals, advanced to the next round without using her 7-pin handicap. She won both the first and the third game scratch, the decider with 239-213, against Italian Amedeo Spada.
