Denmark takes the lead in the five-player Team event after the first block

Denmark (pictured) closed out their series with another 1140 series to set the pace after the first day of the five-player Team event at the Women's World Championships in Hong Kong with 3419 total and an average of 227.93. Kamilla Kjeldsen led the team 802 (267.33) and Britt Brøndsted had the fourth perfecto of the championships.
Singapore was 42 pins behind in second place with 3377 (225.13) followed by defending champion Korea with 3372 (224.00) behind a final 1157 game.
Rounding out the top 4 as the preliminaries have reached the halfway point was Germany with 3368 (224.53) including a record 1262 opening game. Colombia was mere three pins off the top 4 in fifth place with 3354.
Team USA rolled 1185 on the pair of lanes where Germany shot the record game to finish the day in sixth place with 3338 pins just 40 pins off the pace for the finals.
The players are done for today and return Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Hong Kong time for the second block on medium oil.
The top 4 teams will advance to the finals starting on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. immediately following the award ceremonies for All Events.

Sweden's (left) Helén Johnsson, Sandra Andersson (247), Elin Adolfsson, Rebecka Larsen and Joline Persson-Planefors were in fourth place with 1113 with Lisanne Breeschoten, Nicole Sanders (268), Bianca Wiekeraad, Wendy Kok and Ghislaine van der Tol of the Netherlands one pin behind in fifth place with 1112.

Former World Ranking Masters champion Britt Brøndsted rolled the fourth 300 game if the championships and the seventh in the WTBA history to help Denmark (right) leap from seventh to third place with 1179 and 2279 total. Her team mate Kamilla Kjeldsen contributed 279.
Malaysia (left) with Zatil Iman, Sharon Koh, Zandra Aziela, Esther Cheah and Jacqueline Sijore used the highest game of 1208 to rocket into fourth place with 2240. Sharon Koh led the team with 279.
Australia moved up five spots to fifth place with 1157 and 2219 total. Rebecca Whiting and Rebecca Voukolos carried the team with 289 and 267, respectively.
Korea remained in sixth place with 2215 behind an 1108 game. Baek Seung-Ja led the team with 270.
Colombia dropped to seventh place with 2183 after a 1047 game in the second. Two-time defending world champion Clara Juliana Guerrero suffered a 168 game.
Scotland (right) with Claire Guild (218), Laura Rhoney (270), Katherine Wallace (168), Tania Yusaf (260) and Holly Fleming (264) combined for a huge 1189 game to overtake eighth place with 2182.
Mexico (left) with Gabriela Hernández, Verónica Hernández, Sayuri Yamada, Aseret Zetter and Sandra Gongora added 1141 to the 1020 from game one to leap into ninth place with 2161.
An incredible surprise was the tenth place by red-hot favorite Team USA after two of three games on the long pattern today. The Americans had five games between 211 and 225 for 1089 and a 2153 total, an average of 215.30.
The fourth Women's World Championships takes place at bowling center Hong Kong Bowling City in Hong Kong, China, from Sept. 1 through 11, 2011.
171 of the best women bowlers in the world featuring 33 countries compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, five-player Team event, All Events and Masters in the nine-day event.
The WTBA patterns "Seoul" and "Paris" will be used in Hong Kong. The 39-feet Seoul pattern is the second-shortest of the four "medium" WTBA certified lane patterns. With a length of 47 feet, Paris is the longest of all 12 certified patterns.
Singles was played on "Paris" and Doubles will be contested on "Seoul", while Trios and Team will feature both oil patterns (3 games on each pattern). Masters match play will be staged on dual lane condition (one lane dressed with the Seoul pattern and the other lane dressed with the Paris pattern).
The top four players and teams after six games in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team, respectively, will advance to the semifinals. The No. 1 meet No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3. The winners will determine the World Champion, while the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are single-game matches.
