Chris Loschetter becomes the first player to crack the 1500-bar at Brunswick Euro Challenge

    PBA Touring Pro shoots 300 in the last game to lead the field of 253 players from 31 countries with 1505 total (250.83 average); Glenn Morten Pedersen rolls the fifth perfecto in game #5; cut for 52nd place is 1361 (226.83)

    2013EBT04ChrisLoschetterRonnieRussell.jpg2013EBT04DennisEklund.jpgChris Loschetter (pictured left with fellow PBAer, Ronnie Russell, right) of the United States of America finished Squad 9 with the tournament's sixth 300 game en route to overtake the lead of the 253-player field from 31 countries with 1505 total and an average of 250.83 for six games.

    The PBA Touring Pro, who is looking for his first PBA title and his third title on European Bowling Tour, became the first player in this year's event, who cracked the 1500-bar.

    2013EBT04MikStampe.jpg2013EBT04PaulMoor.jpgThree-time EBT titlist Dennis Eklund (above right) of Sweden, who overtook the lead with a 269 in game #5, finished with 256, but had to settle for second place with 1497, eight pins short of the lead.

    Previous leaders Joonas Jehkinen, Finland, and Richard Teece, England, slipped to third and fourth place with 1470 and 1469, respectively. Another eight players in Squad 9 surpassed the 1400-mark.

    Mik Stampe (left), Denmark, moved into fifth place with 1468 and was followed by three-time EBT point ranking leader Paul Moor (right), England (9th; 1442), Ronnie Russell (10th; 1441), United States, and Tonio Antuszewicz (11th; 1436), Poland, who all cracked the top 12. The top 12 at the end of qualifying will earn one bye for the finals.

    2013EBT04PasiUotila.jpg2013EBT04KimBolleby.jpgThree-time Ballmaster Open winner Pasi Uotila (left), Finland, chalked up 1419 to leap into 15th place, with PBA super star Chris Barnes, who won the Masters gold medal at the 2010 Men's World Championships here at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany, in 18th place at 1412.

    Kim Bolleby (right), Sweden, was six pins behind Barnes with 1406, good for 19th place overall. Two-time World Champion Esther Cheah, Malaysia, toppled 1353 pins and added 48 pins women's handicap to help grab 21st place with 1401.

    2013EBT04EstherCheah.jpg2013EBT0GlennMortenPedersen.jpgCheah's (left) team mate Sharon Koh is the best of 53 women in the field in sixth place with 1465 total. Sarah Steh of Germany currently holds the 52nd and last place to advance with 1361 including handicap, an average of 226.83 scratch.

    Glenn Morten Pedersen (right) of Norway had the fifth perfecto of the tournament in game #5 but finished below the cut line in 72nd place with 1341.

    Squad 9, which featured 103 players, was delayed by approx 90 minutes due to a unique problem with the pinsetter of lane #22.

    Brunswick's Pat Mitchell and tournament organizer Martin Knöbl (pictured left, l-r), son of Dream-Bowl Palace owner Werner Knöbl, joined forces to finally solve the problem.

    In the meantime, Brunswick Euro Challenge founder Bill Hartofillis had the time to say hello to Britt Brøndsted, Denmark (pictured right, r-l), who won the inaugural Brunswick Euro Challenge in Thessaloniki, Greece, in the year 2003.

    Qualifying continues Friday, March 22, with Squads 10 & 11 scheduled for 5 and 9 p.m. Central European Time.

    2013BECLogo.jpg The Brunswick Euro Challenge is the fourth tournament on the 2013 European Bowling Tour schedule and one of only two "Platinum" events this season, the EBT's highest tournament category. The BEC is also the seventh stop of the World Bowling Tour and the second of three WBT events in Europe in 2013.

    For the first time in 10 years of BEC competition, Europe's richest tournament will be contested at Europe's biggest bowling center, 52-lane Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany.

    The 106.000 Euro tournament, which runs from March 19-24, offers a 15.000 Euro top prize and a PBA International title if won by a PBA member.

    2013 Brunswick Euro Challenge - Standings after Squad 9/15


    At the end of the qualifying, the top 52 plus the top eight players from a separate leader board of the squads on March 19 & 20 (places 53-60) and the top four of the Desperado Squad (places 61-64) will advance to the finals. The top 12 qualifiers will receive one bye.
