Giant, boisterous victory banquet concludes well-organized 2011 WWC with style

    2011WWCLogo.jpg The fourth World Tenpin Bowling Association Women's World Championships was held from Sept. 1-11 in Hong Kong, China, and concluded with a giant and boisterous victory banquet at EMAX mall in Kowloon Bay.

    The 2011 WWC superbly hosted and organized by the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress, featured 171 of the best women bowlers in the world representing 33 countries and territories.

    HKTBC Chairman and ABF Honorary Life President, Vivien Lau, organized the mega event with her staff and numerous volunteers in little more than a year after the WTBA presidium had to withdraw the award of the Championships 2011 to Malaysia in May 2010.

    During the Nov. Sept. 3-11 competition, players competed for gold, silver and bronze medals in six disciplines - Singles, Doubles, Trios, five-player Team event, All Events and Masters match play.

    All three WTBA zones - America, Asia and Europe - shared the gold medals. Team USA won all three Team gold medals (Doubles, Trios and Team) plus the Masters while Denmark (All Events) and Malaysia (Singles) took the remaining two individual titles. Shannon Pluhowsky of the United States was the Most Valuable Player earning an unprecedented four gold medals and another bronze medal.

    Chosen by Technical Delegate John "JJ" Janawicz, WTBA lane conditioning patterns "Seoul" (medium oul) and "Paris" (long oil) were used at 48-lane Hong Kong Bowling City inside EMAX.

    Singles was played on "Paris" and Doubles was contested on "Seoul", while Trios and Team featured both oil patterns (3 games on each pattern). Masters match play was staged on dual lane condition (left lane with long oil and right lane with medium oil).

    Especially the 47 feet Paris pattern, the longest of all 12 certified WTBA patterns, proved high scoring and all but one championship records were shattered.

    According to the current WTBA Statutes and Playing Rules (effective as of 10 May 2011)m Chapter 5.16 Record stipulations, high score records to be maintained for Women's World Championships are one game, three (games 1-3 or 4-6) and six games - each in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Teams - and 24 games individual All Events.

    WTBA doesn't have separate records for short, medium, long or combined oil patterns maintains records for morning, afternoon or evening squads nor does WTBA make any difference for high score records achieved by right-handers, lefties, spinners, and two-handers.

    Six 300 games have been rolled - Kelly Kulick (United States) in Singles; Caroline Lagrange, Canada, and Shannon O'Keefe, United States in Trios; Britt Brøndsted, Denmark in the Team event as well Shayna Ng, Singapore and Shannon Pluhowsky, United States in Masters.

    Lagrange was the only player who managed a perfect game on the medium pattern. All others came on long oil. The six perfectos brought the total number of 300 games in Women's World Championships to nine.
