Mexican men lead halfway through the Team event at PABCON Championships

    2009PCLogo.jpgMexico took the lead after the first 3-game block in the men's five-player Team event Friday at the 2009 Pan American Bowling Confederation Championships. The Mexicans finished with 3345 pinfall total and an average of 223 after putting forward for a balanced attack.

    Benjamin Corona led Mexico with 693 and was followed by Alejandro Cruz (686), Daniel Falconi (675), Ernesto Franco (663) and Jorge Rosado (628). The team from the host country Puerto Rico is second with 3189 (212.60).

    Team USA has a big deficit to overcome in the second three games on Saturday morning. The Americans sit in third place after three games with 3164 (210.93) and trail Mexico by 181 pins.

    Venezuela is 42 pins off the pace for the medals in fourth place with 3122, followed by Canada with 3109 and Colombia with 3105. Colombia's Manuel Otalora rolled the highest individual series of 739 (214, 259, 268).

    Bill O'Neill held on to the lead in All Events with 4785 for 21 games, David Haynes is second with 4649 and Chris Barnes, all United States, is third at 4625.

    The top 16 players in the All Events standings will advance to the Masters match play Saturday afternoon.
