As reported earlier, Vivien Lau (pictured left, front row on the left, during a press conference with the Hong Kong national team and coaches), chairman of the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress and Honorary Life President of the Asian Bowling Federation, has been awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) by the Hong Kong SAR Government for her contribution to sport and development and promotion of tenpin bowling.

Pictured right is "Buy Sun", a Chinese culture in which you offer food (roasted pig and chicken) to the Chinese gods in the venue to make sure that everything will run smoothly in the championships. Click on the images to enlarge.

In conjunction with the Women's World Championships, which were held in Hong Kong, China Sept. 1-11, 2011, the HKTBC has organized a series of promotional activities (pictured left and right are huge LED ads displayed in some of the busiest districts in Hong Hong) to create awareness of the event as the HK Government has given the Women's World Championships the "M" mark branding.

The "M" logo indicates "Mega Events" in the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Hong Kong National Olympic Committee which are subvented by the Major Sports Events Committee under the Sports Commission of the HKSAR.

The 2011 WWC was contested at bowling center Hong Kong Bowling City inside E-Max mall in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong. The 40-laner opened its doors in 2008 and has hosted international tournaments and championships since such as the 20th Asian Championships, the annual Hong Kong International Open and the Hong Kong ABF Tour leg.

"When we were informed by the Bureau of Home Affairs that the World Championships would be subvented by the Major Sports Events Committee, one of the requirements was to arrange a series of publicities and promotional activities to create awareness in the Hong Kong community and overseas that we will be hosting a mega sport event in September", Mrs. Lau explained. "All in all we spent HK$1 million (approx. USD128,000 or 93.000 Euro) on these activities."

The WWC 2011 logo was subsequently designed together with the poster which is also the cover of the Souvenir Program.

A video was made with Mrs. Lau (pictured left) introducing the WWC 2011 which includes photos of the last Women's World Championships in Las Vegas in 2009. This video was shown on 4,300 busses all over Hong Kong for more than one month before the championships.

The video was also shown on large LED screens at some of the busiest districts in Hong Kong such as Central and Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island and in Tsim Sha Tsui in Nathan Road and Mongkok on Kowloon side, for one month before the championships.

Banners were hanged on the lamp posts in Causeway Bay, Nathan Road from Jordan to Mongkok and in front of E-Max advertising the event to the public.

Five harbor buses busses (left and right) had the advertisement on their bodies and the backs. Advertisements have also been painted on two trams which travel from one end of the HK island to the other through the busiest part of the city.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board also put information of the events on their publications.

The organizers have paid for the expenses of Team USA for three extra days to come to Hong Kong earlier to promote the events and create community awareness by arranging for them to demonstrate and coach the bowling athletes of the Special Olympics and Paralympics on August 29th and to the students and the broken family children of the charity organization Po Leung Kuk on August 30th.

The photo on the left shows the press conferences with Team USA and Mr. Jonathan McKinley, center, the Deputy Sports Minister of Hong Kong on Aug. 29th after which the Americans bowled with the Special Olympics and Paralympics bowling team and shared some of their training secrets with the athletes, pictured right.

There were write-up on newspapers and magazines (pictured left) as well as two advertisements on two prominent newspapers on August 30th and 31st, respectively, after the press conferences with the Team USA.

At the end of the event, there was a thank you advertisement (pictured right) in the sport magazine and newspaper. Numerous interviews were conducted by newspapers and magazines on the HK teams.

"In order to promote our sport, the HKTBC organized three youth competitions in three of the 18 districts in Hong Kong - Kowloon City District, Kwun Tong District and Tai Po District," Mrs. Lau added.

The HKTBC also spent HK$180,000 for the TV production of the Masters finals. The edited versions with highlights of the Opening Ceremonies, Doubles, five-player Team event together with the finals of the Masters match play were broadcasted on TVB channel for one hour. Highlights of the championships also appeared in "Sports World" on TVB.
