Team Germany's Stephan Unger, Timo Schröder have sights set on BEC Finals

    Start the last qualifying day with 1465 and 1425 to lead Squad 12 and to move into the top 20; Jesper Agerbo (DEN) and Isaac Russell Paul (MAS) also surpass the 1400-mark; cut for 52nd place is 1371 (228.50)

    Unger, who had games of 223, 259, 217, 279, 268 and 219, overtook seventh place on the 228-player leaderboard with 1465 total and an average of 244.17. Schröder (pictured right with his younger brother Andre, right) closed out his set with 245 and 255 for 1425 to improve on his previous high series (1212) by 213 pins en route to rocket from 196th to 17th place.

    Unger and Schroeder could improve their chances to be among the six players, who will represent Germany in the 2013 World Championships Aug. 16-31 in Las Vegas, if they finish in or at the top of Europe's biggest event.

Dennis Eklund of Sweden remained in second place with 1497 followed by last year's first runner-up, Joonas Jehkinen of Finland, with 1470.

    An average of more than 240 is necessary to make the top 12 who will earn a bye for the finals. Eleven-time European Bowling Tour champion Paul Moor of England currently holds the spot with 1442 (240.33).

    Two more players surpassed the 1400-mark in Squad 12 bringing the number of players who achieved a series of 1400 and higher to 33.

Malaysian international Isaac Russell Paul (left), who was in danger to fall out of the top 52, topped his previous high of 1376 by 26 pins to leap from 48th to 31st place with 1402.

    Former German international Dirk Dreyer is the new man "on the bubble" in 52nd place with 1371 or an average of 228.50.

    Qualifying continues Saturday, March 23, with Squads 13-15 scheduled for noon, 4 and 8 p.m. and concludes with the Desperado Squad slated for 11.30 p.m. (all times Central European Time).

    2013BECLogo.jpg The Brunswick Euro Challenge is the fourth tournament on the 2013 European Bowling Tour schedule and one of only two "Platinum" events this season, the EBT's highest tournament category. The BEC is also the seventh stop of the World Bowling Tour and the second of three WBT events in Europe in 2013.

    For the first time in 10 years of BEC competition, Europe's richest tournament will be contested at Europe's biggest bowling center, 52-lane Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany.

    The 106.000 Euro tournament, which runs from March 19-24, offers a 15.000 Euro top prize and a PBA International title if won by a PBA member.

    2013 Brunswick Euro Challenge - Standings after Squad 12/15


    At the end of the qualifying, the top 52 plus the top eight players from a separate leader board of the squads on March 19 & 20 (places 53-60) and the top four of the Desperado Squad (places 61-64) will advance to the finals. The top 12 qualifiers will receive one bye.
