Joonas Jehkinen regains lead in Brunswick Euro Challenge in Squad 13

    Finnish bowler dominate the squad; the top 9 position themselves in the top 52; Chris Barnes shoots the seventh perfecto of the tournament; with two squads to go, the cut for 52nd place is 1389 (231.50)

    2013EBT04JoonasJehkinen2.jpg2013EBT04ChrisLoschetter.jpgJoonas Jehkinen (pictured left) of Finland, who led the 10th Brunswick Euro Challenge behind a 1470 series in Thursday's Squad 7, regained the lead in Squad 13 averaging 253.83 for the round.

    He rolled games of 256, 268, 259, 238, 244 and 258 for 1523. Jehkinen, who finished second in the 2012 Brunswick Euro Challenge, is still looking for his first title on the European Bowling Tour.

    Chris Loschetter (right), USA, who became the first player to crack the 1500-bar in Squad 9, slipped to second place with 1505. The next 37 bowlers have achieved a series of 1400 and higher, six of whom in Squad 13.

    Karsten Aust of Germany mans the 12th and last place to earn one bye for the finals with 1449 or an average of 241.50.

    Four-time European Bowling Tour point ranking leader and three-time PBA champion, Osku Palermaa (right), Finland was third in Squad 13 with 1425, good for 19th place at the moment.

    PBA and USBC Hall of Famer, Parker Bohn III (left), who won the 2013 PBA World Championship for his 33rd career PBA title, posted 1410 to move into 30th place.

    32nd place Dayang Khairuniza (right) of Malaysia and 38th place Nina Kovanen of Finland chalked up 1406 and 1400 including handicap.

    Another Malaysian national team member, Zandra Aziela (right), was the last player of Squad 13 to move into the top 52 with 1394, good for 42nd place.

    Fifteen-time PBA champion Chris Barnes (below left), United States, who won the gold medal in Team and Masters at the 2010 WTBA Men's World Championships here at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany, shot the seventh 300 game of the tournament, but finished with 1337 due to back-to-back 170s in the third and fourth game. Barnes sits in 26th place with his 1412 high series.

    2013EBT04ChrisBarnes2.jpgWith only two squads remaining, Jesse Kallio of Finland holds the 52nd and last place to advance with 1389 or an average of 231.50.

    Qualifying continues Saturday, March 23, with Squads 14 & 15 scheduled for 4 and 8 p.m. and concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad slated for 11.30 p.m. (all times Central European Time).

    2013BECLogo.jpg The Brunswick Euro Challenge is the fourth tournament on the 2013 European Bowling Tour schedule and one of only two "Platinum" events this season, the EBT's highest tournament category. The BEC is also the seventh stop of the World Bowling Tour and the second of three WBT events in Europe in 2013.

    For the first time in 10 years of BEC competition, Europe's richest tournament will be contested at Europe's biggest bowling center, 52-lane Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany.

    The 106.000 Euro tournament, which runs from March 19-24, offers a 15.000 Euro top prize and a PBA International title if won by a PBA member.

    2013 Brunswick Euro Challenge - Standings after Squad 13/15


    At the end of the qualifying, the top 52 plus the top eight players from a separate leader board of the squads on March 19 & 20 (places 53-60) and the top four of the Desperado Squad (places 61-64) will advance to the finals. The top 12 qualifiers will receive one bye.
