Colombia's Guerrero, Restrepo set the pace as Women's Doubles reaches halfway mark

    Colombia's Clara Juliana Guerrero and Rocio Restrepo (pictured above, l-r) set the pace in Women's Doubles at the XVII Pan American Games "Toronto 2015" as competition reached its halfway mark Wednesday at the Pan American Games bowling center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

    In sharp contrast to the record-breaking performance of the men's Doubles earlier on Wednesday, the Colombians were the only women's team of the participating 14 PABCON member federations which averaged over 200.

    2015PAGLizJohnsonShannonPluhowsky.jpgThe Colombians rebounded from a slow start (435, 330 and 349) with games of three consistently high games (432, 432 and 431) to lead the field with 2409 total and a combined average of 200.75. Restrepo led the duo with 1233 and two-time World Champion Guerrero added 1176.

    Trailing Colombia by 28 pins to sit in second place were Team USA's Liz Johnson and Shannon Pluhowsky (right, l-r), who chalked up 2381 (198.42 average), including a 500 in game five.

    2015PAGKarenMarcanoPatriciaDeFaria.jpgPluhowsky led the way with 1203, while Johnson, who won gold in Women's Doubles at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, contributed 1178.

    Just six pins behind the Americans were Patricia De Faria and Karen Marcano of Venezuela (left, r-l) who toppled 2375 pins (197.92), including a high game of 457. De Faria posted 1226 and Marcano added 1149.

    Fourth place belonged to Puerto Rico's Mariana Ayala and Kristie Lopez with 2279, who were followed by Aumi Guerra and Ana Henriquez of Dominican Republic (2269), El Salvador's Eugenia Quintanilla and Marcela Sanchez (2262) and the team from the host country Canada, Robin Orlikowski and Isabelle Rioux (right, r-l) in seventh place with 2257.

    Doubles concludes Thursday with six more games which will determine the medalists on total pinfall after the 12 games.

    PanAmericanGamesLogo.jpg Held every four years, the Pan American Games are an Americas version of the Olympic Games which includes the Olympic program sports and others that are not part of the Olympics. The Pan American Games are the second-largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.

    The XVII Pan American Games "Toronto 2015" run from July 10-26 in Toronto, Canada, with preliminary rounds in certain events having begun on July 7, 2015. This year, 6,100 athletes from 41 countries and territories from the Americas are competing in 36 sports in the 15 host communities of the Greater Golden Horseshoe region.

    Bowling competition takes place at Planet Bowl in Etobicoke, Toronto, Canada, from July 22-26. 56 players, 28 men and 28 women, from 15 Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON) member federations compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles.
