Pluhowsky, Suartz win Singles gold to end Pan American Games bowling competition

Top-seeded Johnson, MacLelland eliminated in semifinal round

Pluhowsky, seeded second, defeated Aumi Guerra of the Dominican Republic in the gold medal match, 223-212. Suartz, also seeded second, topped Venezuela's Amleto Monacelli for the men's title, 201-189.

Team USA's Johnson, Bidwell lead in Singles at Pan American Games

Qualifying pinfall will be carried forward. Match play features one-game matches with the winner receiving 20 bonus pins. The top four bowlers after match play advance to the medal round, also on Saturday.

Lavoie ends the 300 game jinx; rolls the first perfecto in the history of the Pan American Games; Colombia earns the silver medal and the U.S. team takes bronze

The Canadians out averaged their nearest competitors, Jaime Gonzalez and Manuel Otalora of Colombia, by more than 13 pins. The U.S. duo of Devin Bidwell and Tommy Jones took the bronze medal.

Clara Guerrero, Rocio Restrepo win gold for Colombia in Women's Doubles

Team USA takes silver medal and Venezuela gets bronze

Clara Juliana Guerrero and Rocio Restrepo (l-r) captured the title in Women's Doubles Thursday at the Pan Am bowling center to win the first gold medal in the bowling competition at the XVII Pan American Games "Toronto 2015" for Colombia. The duo led the 14-nation field after 12 games with with 5074 total an average of 211.42. Team USA's Liz Johnson and Shannon Pluhowsky took the silver medal and Patricia De Faria and Karen Marcano of Venezuela got bronze.

In sharp contrast to the record-breaking performance of the men's Doubles earlier on Wednesday, the Colombians were the only women's team of the participating 14 PABCON member federations which averaged over 200.

MacLelland led the way with the field-best 1416 series, while Lavoie contributed 1296. Devin Bidwell and Tommy Jones, United States, were second (2649) with Colombia's Jaime Gonzalez and Manuel Otalora in third place (2605).

Team USA bowlers to compete in Pan American Games

Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, New York, Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio, Devin Bidwell of Wichita, Kansas, and Tommy Jones of Simpsonville, South Carolina, will represent the United States in what is considered the most important event in the four-year cycle of the Team USA bowling program.

6,100 athletes from 41 countries and territories from the Americas are competing in 36 sports

This year, 6,100 athletes from 41 countries and territories from the Americas are competing in 36 sports in the 15 host communities of the Greater Golden Horseshoe region. Bowling competition takes place at Planet Bowl in Etobicoke, Toronto, Canada, from July 22-26. Maximum two men and two women from the 15 PABCON member federations compete for medals in Singles and Doubles.

The qualifying process was based on performance at the 2015 United States Bowling Congress Team USA Trials and the 2015 USBC Queens. The Pan American Games are an Americas version of the Olympic Games which includes the Olympic program sports and others that are not part of the Olympics.

Canadian bowling team nominated for XVII Pan American Games "Toronto 2015"

2015PanAmGamesLogo_small.jpgThe Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Tenpin Federation (CTF) have announced the athletes nominated to represent Team Canada at the XVII Pan American Games "Toronto 2015" from July 10-26. The ladies roster will consist of Isabelle Rioux of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, and Robin Orlikowski who resides in Michigan. The Canadian men's roster features World Champions Dan MacLelland from Kitchener, Ontario, and François Lavoie of Quebec City.

Devin Bidwell (l.) of Wichita, Kansas, and Tommy Jones (r.) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, will represent Team USA at the prestigious 2015 Pan American Games this July 10-26 in Toronto, Canada. The qualifying process was based on performance at the 2015 USBC Team USA Trials and the 2015 USBC Masters. The Team USA women's representatives will be decided after the 2015 USBC Queens in May.

Representing the sport of tenpin bowling at the assembly is PABCON President José Guandique of El Salvador. Guandique was pleased to inform the PABCON member federations that PASO President Mario Vázquez Raña has announced Thursday afternoon that Bowling will be included again in the official program of the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canada.
